I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, because seriously, how many of us keep them? A few years ago I decided to sit myself down and think about what I really wanted for the coming year and tried to pick a word that would keep me motivated.
One word turned into two the next year.
A year later I decided three might be better. And three was definitely the charm for me.
Each year I look into my crystal ball, pick a few tarot cards, and meditate on my ideal goals for the coming year…then I choose three words that I can go to all year to keep myself focused on the plan.
This year I have chosen three words that represent three different aspects of my life.
Resolute…having a fixed purpose and being determined to get there. Since my divorce my writing has floundered a bit – I still write every day, I just can’t seem to get it all together to get to “the end.” I am determined that 2019 will be different.
Plucky…courage and spirit. Let’s be real here for a minute. I’m a 50+ girl, divorced and learning more about ME every day. Plenty of days require courage and spirit! This year, I’m embracing it.
Frugal…economic use of resources. See #2 above. I’m learning how to handle my own finances in a responsible way (something I’m also trying to teach my kids!) But, resources isn’t always about money. I still haven’t quite mastered making the best use of my limited free time (that damn full time job seems to take up a lot of my time these days!) One thing I’ve discovered this past year is how saving a little time each week for ME isn’t selfish – it’s necessary for my own sanity and well-being!
If you’re a resolution-maker and it works for you…power on. If not, picking a few words to spur you on to achieving your goals might be a good option. I’d love to hear what words are inspiring you this year…so scroll on down to the bottom and leave those inspirational words in the comments!
Happy 2019!
